Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist as well as presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms and the Iran Contra scandal. She travelled frequently along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
